A Virtual Private Server (VPS) is a virtual machine sold as a service. A VPS runs its own copy of an operating system (OS), and customers may have superuser-level access to that operating system instance, so they can install almost any software that runs on that OS.
The Core server is divided to accommodate number of VPS on it. There is a core OS on the HOST machine and a VPS supported Kernel. The physical server typically runs a hypervisor which is tasked with creating, releasing, and managing the resources of “guest” operating systems, or virtual machines.
Once the OS is ready for virtual partitioning, VPS is created in terms of Technology, Different types of Virtualization are as follows
- Open VZ
Advantages: Isolation of OS and application is the primary need of Virtualization followed by using resources as much needed for that application
There may be a direct access to this virtualized environment same like the host machines.
With unmanaged or self-managed hosting, the customer is left to administer their own server instance.
